Forget your ancestors!

Many are not concerned with learning their family story. I'm highly interested with learning about the experiences of my people who came before me. Since I started exploring, researching, and asking more questions, I have come to realize and better understand that my people are resilient, creative, and entrepreneurial people who lived life. This has great meaning for me.

I don't come from weak people who were afraid to do new things and venture out. Knowing this reminds me that I can do more than I'd imagined. Before I thought this way, I only thought in terms of "I". Now I think in terms of "we", remembering that many people will come after me.

I make choices considering that many will come after me. I make choices remembering that my ancestors, my mother, and my father didn't survive to create weak children who wouldn't be able to cope and build. This changes my outlook on life. No longer is it acceptable to settle for mediocrity when those before me survived so much more. They might not have had me in mind but I'm here now and they're a major driving force in my life.

Forget my ancestors?

Never.
